Sensei Garrett Chase, Yondan

Director at Large/Media Manager

Born in Wolfville, Nova Scotia, Garrett moved to Victoria, BC in 1997. He began studying Karate under Shihan Greg Reid 8th Dan that year.

A certified Karate referee through Karate British Columbia, he has travelled extensively throughout the province of British Columbia, refereeing the sport of Karate. He also had the opportunity to be one of the few young referees invited to attend the 2006 BC Winter Games in Trail, BC.

Sensei Chase is a National level referee through Karate Canada.

He received an award for 'outstanding community service and leadership' from the United Way.

As an instructor, Garrett has been teaching Karate from an early age as a volunteer instructor with the Youth Program at the C.A.S.K./Wado Canada Headquarters in Victoria, BC.

More recently, he trained directly under Shihan Reid at his Karate school in the Cayman Islands for two years, where he studied Wado Karate and taught classes.

Garrett is passionate about helping youth develop mentally, physically and spiritually, and empowering them to be community leaders. He believes Karate-do training is a great avenue to do this.

Outside of Karate, Garrett enjoys singing and attending concerts, ballroom dancing, and travelling. He is a student at St. Mary's University in Halifax.

In 2014, Garrett returned to Nova Scotia and opened Wado Canada's first school in that region. He also serves on the executive board of directors for Karate Nova Scotia.
