Sensei Charles La Vertu, Rokudan

A communications expert, public servant and
former journalist and editor, Sensei Charles is the founding
vice-president of the Wado Karate Association of Canada.
He has served on the board since its
inception in January, 1996.
Sensei Charles became president late in
2000, and has served in that capacity since then.
A student at the CASK Karate Victoria Hombu
since 1985, he is a member of CASK Shiai and one of the senior
instructors with Victoria Youth Karate.
A certified coach through the 3M National
Coaching Certification Program, Sensei Charles is a member of the
Coaches
Association of British Columbia, of Karate British Columbia (the
governing body for sports karate in the province) and through
KBC, of the
National Karate Association/Karate Canada. He is President of Karate BC and the Vancouver Karate Society, and he is a licensed judge/referee.
Sensei Charles has also served on the local
and component executives of the British Columbia Government and Service
Employees Union.
A member of the British Columbia
Legislative Press Gallery for 11 years, he served on its executive for
eight years including five as president. He has also served on the
local and component executives of the British Columbia Government and
Service Employees Union.
Sensei Charles was given the title of
Sensei by Top
Master Masaru Shintani on Feb. 4, 1996, and was awarded the rank of
Rokudan (6th degree black belt) by Saiko Shihan Greg Reid on
Nov. 25, 2005.
He is also a member of the Wado Canada Dan
grading board, chair of the Newsletter Committee and editor of the
association's newsletter.
Married, he is the father of two and
grandfather of three.
